I really appreciated the opportunities we were given to grow professionally during the Fall Semester. First, I really enjoyed reading Reframing Organizations as it gave me the opportunity to thoroughly examine different leadership frames. With Reframing Organizations we were able to dissect the four frames of leadership to understand situations within organizations. In addition, I realized the importance of stepping back and evaluating situations through a different lens. The frames allowed me to re-examine issues that I’m currently experiencing on my job, giving me the opportunity to deeply reflect on how I should address situations. I assumed that I lead from the structural frame because I’m very organized and develop plans of actions to address concerns within my school; however, after completing the survey I exhibited more characteristics of the political frame. After discussing the political frame, I was able to understand why it was my dominant frame because I believe in building strong teams and utilize negotiating tactics to obtain resources needed for my school. I really enjoyed the real life story examples.
Secondly, SPSS what can I say!!!! This statistical program challenged me to utilize a different approach for data analysis. I was very uncomfortable at first; however, I continued to conquer through trial and error. I’m sure the program will be very beneficial during our Capstone projects.
Finally, EDLP 715 has made me feel more secure in writing scholarly papers. I was a little apprehensive about the class because I had not written a paper in eight years; however, I can see a tremendous difference between my first and last writing assignment. I’m starting to write clearly and concisely, making sure my targeted audience will be able to follow along. I really appreciated the peer reviews and the constructive feedback that I received from Dr. Driver. The advice will assist me in writing papers throughout the program.
