Thoughts on the 3rd writing prompt

Brian Maltby

Last week we were challenged to write a persuasive paper. I have always enjoyed debating and looked forward to the opportunity to convince an audience with written words rather than verbal ones. Once I picked a topic I felt passionate about, writing came easy. The difficult part was connecting it to research. I was able to find many business related websites that spoke directly to my subject. I used the words of many experts and speakers but was unable to locate scholarly journals. The cites I used seem acceptable, but this is a skill I need to improve on. Collecting quality research is definitely a talent I need to practice. Saturday’s class offered a lot of insight on how best to attack this style of writing. I also need to pay closer attention to APA format from here on out.

The companion piece to this assignment is to give a persuasive presentation. I have already been practicing this. I find that the words are coming fairly easily but I need to be cognizant of my posture, eye contact, tone of voice, etc. I am concentrating now on becoming better poised and connecting with my audience. I want my words to flow confidently and without visual aides. I will continue to practice until Saturday’s due date….
