Saturday’s writing class was beneficial to me in several ways. I felt more prepared to write the position paper because we were given time to reflect and choose what prompt we wanted to write about prior to Saturday’s class. Everyone in the Longwood Cohort came in with a solid rough draft. Dr. Cross shared suggestions for strengthening our position paper and details about our oral argument presentation we need to give in our next Saturday class. I felt the suggestions were very helpful. I used them when I later edited my paper.
Our cohort was disappointed that we were unable to peer edit with the other two cohorts. However, we conducted our own peer editing session within our cohort. I received valuable feedback about how I needed to strengthen my position in the paper. Also, two other cohort members chose the same question as I did. Amazingly enough though, we each interpreted the question differently and took a different perspective when answering it. It gave me an “aha” moment seeing another angle in how the question could be viewed and answered. It really is great how diverse our cohort is in leadership styles and thought processes. I am learning so much from our class discussions, group activities, and feedback on papers.
