I’m stealing an idea from my peers…(Thanks Ruth Ann and Donna!) I’m going to keep a personal, yet public, journal documenting my progress throughout the doctoral program.  In this journal, I will reflect on how my courses have helped me in my profession.  This journal will document my progress as well as growth.  I will attempt to reflect in this journal weekly in addition to the required blog posts.

I will start by saying that it has only been one summer and almost one semester since we started this journey.  I have already found where I reflect on our discussions in class during my regular job as a director of instruction.  I now look as issues that arise and try to frame those issues like we have been discussing Bolman and Deal’s text in class.  I have enjoyed that when given a paper to write I can use real issues that schools are facing as topics.  I recently wrote a paper on the new Student Growth Percentiles that VDOE will be releasing any day now.  This will be an adaptive challenge for us that will require much training and understanding.  As a result of using that as my topic, I was able to research more about SGPs.  This knowledge will be directly applied to my position at work.

I really think I’m going to like this journal.  I feel that our other blog posts are more reflective of the overall process of the program with topics that relate specifically to our class.  This journal will be a more comprehensive look at my own personal growth.
