High quality writing is necessary for good communication. Good communication is important for effective leadership. Good grammar, sentence structure, formatting, and audience awareness are only a few factors you must understand in order to provide high quality writing. I believe that my writing ability is good at this time, but definitely has room for improvement. I like the process of drafting, editing, writing, editing, reviewing, writing, and finally editing. As long as I have the time to complete this process, it is not a challenge. I become very uncomfortable when this process is rushed.
Peer editing is a great way to share in this process. I love giving feedback and receiving feedback. In working as an administrative team, we verbally complete this mission daily. We work in such a high paced, informal environment that our writing has become more informal also. Quick emails, short memos, and sticky notes have overcome the communication process. When a person has to write at length, it does allow you to commit more to your words and actions and to analyze your values much more than in the short, informal processes.
For our cohort, I believe the peer editing would be more valuable if we branched out to other members instead of sticking to the smaller groups we feel more comfortable in. Sharing with the entire cohort opens up more thoughts and ideas but may take too much time. I enjoy writing but look forward to becoming a better, more effective writer.
