Another great demonstration of leadership skills by the Center for Sport Leadership. Recognized as the the “World’s Largest QuickStart Tennis Tournament” by the USTA, my students conducted a 41 court tennis tournament that accommodated just under 200 elementary school participants from the Richmond Public Schools. It was a day long event that took months of planning, fundraising, and coordinating and was designed to teach life-skills through the sport of tennis. Concepts such as teamwork, cooperation, and hard work were addressed as well as discussions about the importance of being active and the importance of proper nutrition. A brief overview of the contributions of Arthur Ashe to the sport of tennis and the world community were also discussed in an interactive session.
The kids had a great time and my students showed great leadership ability through the entire process. Very proud of them for their service to VCU, the Richmond Public Schools, and our community!
